Although this may seem like a small change, I found this surprisingly empowering. During the session with Umar, he not only helped me change my eating habits but also helped me to understand the cause of this habit i.e. my lack of self discipline was due to a belief that I needed these foods to comfort me and a fear that I would appear disrespectful to my friends and family (who I used to drink milk tea and eat pizza with on a regular basis).

After my session with Umar I have found myself automatically applying the same principles I learnt from our session to other domains. For example, I am now able to continuously persist with difficult work until it is done rather than taking more breaks than I truely need. I now easily refuse to eat pizza or milk tea offered to me and instead choose a healthier option and I neither feel like I’m disrespecting my friends and family nor feel any loss of comfort when I make this choice now. Instead, I actually found my friends and family were quite pleased and even impressed with this change.

Before working with Umar, I was finding it very stressful trying to push through temptations just using my willpower. I would feel like I had to eat chocolate when I was craving sugar. Also, I would regularly feel like I wanted to eat junk food when life got stressful and hard. You can say that I was eating my stress away in life. This positive shift reinvigorated my commitment to a healthier lifestyle, focusing on improved sleep, hydration, and nutrition, reigniting my passion for exercise and fueling my ambition to compete in sports once again.

Before I started working with Umar, my attempts at stopping eating junk food were all very start-fail-stop-and-repeat. I felt lost and lacked structure in my approaches to weight loss in general and fitness. I’d lost the ability to plan my meals, rest, and hydration and lacked any real motivation.

After the first session, I had a feeling this was all going to be positive for my well-being, and Umar was going to help me. In the past, I had been regularly tired, experienced stress and anxiety, and my weight had always gone up. Now I could see a light at the end of the tunnel and feel so much better about my eating habits. Moreover, I’m much more positive now, and it’s allowed me to think clearly about other issues in my life, helping to improve my work-life balance. I’m now cycling and walking a lot more, sleeping better, and my gym workouts have returned after a long time. It’s even refired up my interest in completing a triathlon.

What was interesting about working with Umar was that it didn’t feel like a business meeting. The process feels informal, but it is always structured and is part of my personal plan that Umar has devised with my full input from the start.
